Season 2 Starts In Four Weeks!
Sep03
Well, folks, I’m in way over my head already, but Season 2 is being prepared even as we speak. And to keep you all interested, and a little bit teased, here’s a little bit to tantalize you.
I haven’t much to say this week, because not only to I have too much to do and nothing to announce in advance of the next season (nothing I haven’t said already, anyway), I also have an eye-splitting migraine headache. So I’m turning out the lights now and going to go try to sleep it off.
But you may rest assured that the next chapter is on the way! OH! And to everyone in the United States, happy Labor Day. Sit back, relax, and reflect on a job well done!
All the best!
These are some decidely retro planes here. They look to me at least like a swept wing version of the American Shooting-Star jets that they started the Korean war with. I suppose that shouldn’t surprise me, seeing as we’ve previously seen Avro Vulcan bombers, but it does still surprise me, seeing as technology is so much more advanced in so many other areas in the 6 Commando universe, except in aeronautics it seems.
There have been some surprisingly long-lived aircraft, which have drastically outdistanced their original design. Take for example the Douglas A-1 Skyraider (upon which I partially based the planes above – not to give anything away). It was designed in the War, and used as the primary ground-attack aircraft of the US Navy and Air Force until the late 1970’s. It’s simply not economical to produce a whole new series of aircraft, even every ten years. It’s why we’re still using planes built in the 1980’s, designed in the 1970’s, to meet military objectives from the 1960’s. In fact, I’ve read that the B-52 bomber is not scheduled for withdrawal from service until as late as 2060 – more than a century after it was designed!
So a little retro in the skies over 6-Commando seemed like a good bet for their world.
Plus, I like retro airplanes. So there’s that, too. 😀

I’m not a big military buff, but that’s really interesting.
Well… Those look like some variation of MIG-17 to me. 🙂 So they fit in FSR relatively conservative design style. 🙂
By the way MIG 17 was a great fighter. Maybe not the mos maneuverable one, but really diehard.
I once saw a picture of MIG-17 that wat missing tail and half of one wing. And comment said that this plane managed to get to the landing on it’s own…
Oh, boy, did the MiG-17 ever have style. I’m a huge fan of the second-generation jets, on both sides. I like the Sabre, as well. And the Saab-29. Oh, man.

One word: Starfighter.
Looks like a 1930ties SciFi rocket-ship. How cool is that?
Unless of course you’d have to fly one… xp
Unfortunately, neither the UNA nor the FSR has a space program. Unless you count their massive investments in intercontinental atomic missiles.
In 6-Commando, there is no satellite network, no space station, there was no moon landing, and the first and only man in space was a Canadian named Group Captain John Samuel Bryson, Jr.

And for some reason, it still strikes me as hilarious that Canada has basically taken over America’s role as the “World Police”.
Also, if this is a FSR aircraft, it would be in keeping with the old Soviet Military design philosophy of keeping things simple. Just go with what works and make it easy enough to maintain and operate, so even a peasant conscript can understand it.
I’m also going to say that the 6 Commando universe sounds like a pretty bleak place if there has never been a space program, in my oppinion, probably one of the most important endevours in human history. But I suppose in this universe, no one saw any immediate practical use for anything that *wasn’t* for killing Commie/Imperialist scum
With “starfighter” I meant the Lockheed F-104. ^^
I know, I tried to link to it, but it didn’t parse.
Really cool plane – funny thing is, although it was American designed and built, only German and Italian pilots ever figured out how to fly it correctly!
–M
… into the ground. Nose first. >.<
HA! Notoriously unstable plane except at improperly high speeds. Still – it looked awfully cool.
–M
Ahh, the F-104, the
“missile with a man in it”.
Fast, but not very manuevarable.
And not nearly as beloved (by me anyway 😛 ) as the Douglas X-3.
It failed to meet it’s goals, but DAMN it looked good! 😀 😀
They look like Il-40 “Brawny” variants.
Actually, the A-10 is going to out live ALL the Cold War tech. 😀 Upgrade programs well towards the mid century that would probably keep it going until ~2060s or later even if unmanned. It already survived the Fighter diehards twice already, and its still going strong.
Then there is our rumbler who is essentially a Bolo (specifically the ‘tac-nuke proofed’ variants) with a big ass railgun (dude, BB guns? Hell I thought you had the Yamato’s guns on one of them!) and some laser PD.
The QA-10 will almost certainly see the light of day.
Hope your head gets better sir! Liking the look of the line-work so far, looking forward to the next chapter.
Looking forward to the new season!
