What Mr. Average Is Working On, Part 1
Feb20
Just in case you think I’ve totally dropped off the face of the Earth, here’s a small taste of the work I’m doing in the hiatus. Sci fi, naturally, with a semi-retro, semi-hard style. It’s a fun change of pace! If all goes well, this will be available in Volume 2 of the SpiderForest Anthology later this year.
Still swinging, here, guys. Thanks for bearing with me!
Hmmm, Pan-Am shuttle thingie. Looks a bit like the suggested X-33, yet instead of an Aerospike engine we have good old bell-shaped engines similar to the STS. Guess those will be quite the fuel guzzlers.
Since it also does not appear that this shuttle is standing on any landing gear, it gives us the impression it is floating, so can we assume it is currently docked at a space-station in orbit? Maybe sort of like the shuttle in ‘2001 – A space Odysee’ ? I think I recall that was a Pan-Am shuttle as well.
Hmmm, that is all that I can think of as right now looking at the picture. Looks really cool. And I am really curious how it will look when fully finished.
Heh heh… all pretty on target. I can’t get one past you, can I?
Incidentally, this particular one is PanAm Clipper “Solar Challenger.” Just a worldbuilding tidbit. 😉
I glanced at the title without processing the punctuation right and my brain intepreted it as
“What? Mr. Average is working on…part 1?!!”
Hahahahah! Feels like that sometimes…
Nice!
Thanks, man! It’s just set dressing but I like aconsisyent world for my stories, so setup matters!
Love that space shuttle; Love. It.
Haha, thanks! I’m actually revising the wings to give it a better lifting-body shape. Just because.
Ah the good old days, when PanAm still flew, soon we’d have suborbital and orbital shuttles run by all the major airlines. Cars would all be battery or nuclear powered (to be fair that idea kind of crapped out by the early 60’s) Good times, the future looked so bright in spite of nuclear threat. where the heck is my jet pack.
Right? Industrial space stations by 1979? What happened with THAT?!
I know, I know…don’t forget that we’d have at least had permanent scientific bases on the moon and shortly after large scale habitats at all the Lagrange points! I try not to think about it too much because it could drive a sophont to drink. :\ organic or silicon or AI.
