Well, here we are again. And Major Rucker seems to be the first person to ask that most crucial question: “Why is this happening?” There may not be an answer, but at least he’s willing to contemplate it.
As for me, well… Looks like another atrocity, this weekend – the thing in Orlando. Seems like the weekly comments are becoming a log of atrocities as this nonsense has unfolded. I lived in Florida for a long time, and let me tell you, for all the embarrassing and inadequate talk about the government loving people (which struck me as a lot of career politicians grasping at straws, frankly – I don’t want the government to love me, good Lord!) I can tell you that Florida is a very tough state, and people there don’t take kindly to terrorists, or fascism of any stripe. This retrograde fascist crap, cloaking itself in the trappings of religion, is infecting the minds of already badly messed-up people, and probably will continue to do so for some time.
They who take the sword perish by the sword. The best thing to do is not to dignify it with your attention beyond the requirements of propriety and good citizenship – don’t fall into the trap of sensationalism or obsession. That just gives these freaks the attention they crave. To paraphrase Einstein, as I’ve done in the past, I keep hoping that, by the end of the war, with God’s benevolent help, they will largely kill each other off.
Anyway, folks, to quote another wise man, enjoy every sandwich. Be well, everyone.
We haven’t seen a memory flashback from Colonel Talinina – yet.
We didn’t? But the one in that russian city? The evacuation?
That was one of her Sergeants.
What he said. 😉
I don’t know what’s happening in Florida, but if it follows the current european thread of radicalism, then yeah, the best way to stop that might not to be “fire against fire” strategy.
But what can we do? If the government doesn’t help…
People put too much faith in the government as it is, like they know anything more than we do. They don’t. And it’s embarrassing when they tell us they love us and all we have to do is just believe and everything will be fine. It’s all very well to say what we should have done afterwards, but I resist anyone who thinks they have all the answers. I don’t doubt everyone’s doing the best they can, but the fact is that the only places you find perfect stability are prisons and graveyards.
You’ll find very little stability in a prison. I know people that work there. The idea that prisons are perfectly stable is a popular misconception.
As for not fighting “fire with fire”, most don’t realize that diplomacy and tolerance are like people writing checks. Eventually, some scumbag out there is going to try to cash it. If your military and police are ready, able, and willing to pay up, you’ll in for a heap of trouble.
I’ll simple respond with this quote: “Naïve wishing for peace is the most effective way to encourage an aggressor.”
Apologies.
If your military and police AREN’T ready, able, and willing
I’m no shrink, but sounds like mike might be developing a secondary gestalt.
You don’t want your supertank going schizophrenic on you, that’s for sure.
Perhaps ‘Red Mike’ is a gestalt of the angry/dark/vengeful memories he’s copied from the people he’s read? Whatever it is, it looks to be an interesting time ahead!
Wait, now I know what is happening.
Smart guy gets a huge dose of radiation from a nuclear explosion and becomes violent when provoked…Mike is the Hulk!
Well, he’s definitely big enough…
