Sorry this took an extra day, but here we are! The plot thickens, as they say.
I turned 35 this weekend, and as seems to be the pattern the past few years, my birthday was marked by international violence, with hostages taken in Sydney by some fundamentalist sociopath, and a lunatic running around my home town of Philadelphia killing off his ex-family members, police brutalizing poor people trying to make ends meet, and selfish politicos exploiting it all as they continue to grasp for power. Naturally, human nature being what it is these days that’s probably just the tip of the iceberg. In an age where atrocities have become a kind of sought-after public spectacle, what’s really to be expected? I have nothing to add to all this, except to say that it’s just capping off a year that’s really been depressing and disappointing to everyone who believes in non-aggression, non-violence and human solidarity, worldwide. This is a world desperately in need of a little more shame.
Surely some revelation is at hand.
Anyway, I’m turning in. All the best, everyone.
Happy birthday…for what it’s worth.
It’s worth a lot, actually. Thank you. 🙂
I might be kind of slowpoke here, but…
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
😀
Never too late. Thanks! Good to hear from you again!
All of this has happened before and all of this will happen again…
Yup. Be it official (gladiatorial combat in Rome, judicial combat in the Middle Ages), or personal (lynchings, violent grudges, and some of the worse forms of insanity taken out on others) none of this is even a sign of these times but timeless.
Still doesn’t make it right.
Rucker going down to Y-Level to the UNA and CONASUR shooting war with just an armored vest seems like a horribly bad idea?
Better’n nothing. But when HIVELOCs are flying around that can blow through powered armor suits, it basically IS nothing, I guess…
Who knows. Maybe it’ll save him from some moron’s sidearm.
Happy Birthday!
Oh…and the Russian economy may collapse in the next month or so…you forgot that one.
Thanks, man. And yes, the imploding Russian currency is another great disaster in the making. To say nothing of the slaughter of children in Pakistan, people intimidating each other over some idiotic Seth Rogen movie, and God knows what else. And all these madmen still have hell to look forward to. When you think of all the effort being spent on this grasping at power – we could be living in cities on Neptune by now, for all the waste it’s cost our civilization.
Actually, what is happening to Russia’s currency is not that bad.
Sure the price for manyimported commodities are going to rise, and life levels are going to nosedive, but I’t not like this is the first time this is happening. And all signs show that this is not going to be as bad as it was in 90-ths. Probably even not as bad as 2008.
Here’s hoping. It’s always the average people who have to bear the brunt of political posturing. Back in 2008, the dollar list far less value and it was catastrophic for a lot of people. But as ever, we all find a way to get by.
Well, happy birthday and all that “hippo two birdies two ewes” and “conga rat ululations”. Page looks good to me and yes I’ve seen leadership sicker than dog still do their job. Coffee helps, well that and 800mg ibuprophen. 😉
Thanks, man. And yeah, coffee does help, but moderation in all things.
Is it just me, or does the guy in the last panel look like Ulrich’s portrait?
Uncanny.
😀
I’d been promising to give Herr Ulrich a cameo in the comic for some time – I’m just sorry to took so long.
😀
Yay! My five minutes of internet fame!
Happy 35th! Cant say it gets any better at this point, but its worth a shot eh?
Also you could be my brother. Born 9/12… what a birthday present.
Oy! One actual brother is plenty for me! 😉
Happy birthday to you may it be one with strippers and a lot of blow!
If by “strippers and blow” you mean “time at the club and James Bond flicks,” then it was dead on! 😀
Happy birthday. Thank you for creating this comic and giving us all a gift every week or so.
Thanks, man. It’s a pleasure. It can sometimes be tough to keep it going, with all the rest of what I do to make ends meet, but knowing that it’s appreciated helps a lot!
Hey man, just wanted to say that I love your webcomic, and happy birthday! It was months ago that I found a black & white drawing of Mike, thought it was fairly cool and moved on. For the past few weeks it was bugging me to no end and I finally found it! Read the whole thing in a few hours and im now hooked.
😀
Very kind of you to say! I’m glad you find it interesting and entertaining, and I hope you’ll continue to read, even though the schedule has been spotty recently.
