She’s Here Somewhere
Well, this is what you were waiting for. Sorry we were delayed last week. I’m sure you’re used to something a bit unusual cropping up in this comic every once in a while, but even I find this image a bit disturbing. But that’s atomic war for you.
So, a little housekeeping. First, though last week’s “filler” is not online anymore (I took it down so as not to break the flow of the story) I have not deleted it – I am always very careful to save people’s comments, as they’re a very important resource for me. However, I want to bring up a subject in re: some new comments that came up last week, but which I didn’t post. For the vast majority of you, these are not issues, so you can skip over this section if you like. But this week I had a bunch of not-quite-but-I-kind-of-think-of-it-as-spam posts from new “readers.” If you were waiting to see a post come online after the admin delay, but didn’t, this is for you. Primarily, if you sign on to my site just to try to post a comment that says “First!” I will not post it, not ever-EVER; it will, in fact, be caught by my new web of filters (yay, end-of-summer upgrade!). It’s irritating and juvenile, and I won’t stand for it, so please don’t do it on my website – and, by the way, this is not an invitation for anyone else to do it “as a joke,” because I’ll suspend your posting privileges, too. It’s a huge pet peeve of mine, and I hate it, so don’t. Second, if you post something that is not totally coherent, or contains flagged terms or links, it likewise will be caught by my filters and auto-deleted, or if it’s borderline, I will see it and delete it manually. So don’t do that either.
So with that out of the way, We’ve had an eventful week, I guess. Lots of work cleaning up after the hurricane, for one thing. Also, an election, which basically went very much against what I wanted to see; though, admittedly, an across-the-board sweep of the Libertarian Party was highly improbable. Sigh. Democracy has its limits.
Anyhow, this also happens to be Armistice Day (or, rather, yesterday was), commemorating the end of the First World War. In the Commonwealth, I think it’s called Remembrance Day or ANZAC Day, and in the U.S., we have extended it to form Veterans’ Day, in which we honor all the soldiers who served the nation and the cause of the Revolution in wartime. Sadly, war is all too common in the history of the West, but there it is.
Anyhow, that’s all from me for now. I’m turning in. See you next week, folks!
Right about the blast from the past. Alexei is the guy capturing (and abusing) Sarah. Now he re-lives something from his past as he lies dying (?) from the first atomic drop.
Poor slob…
*Hands Ulrich a cookie and an internet*
Much appreciated! 😀
I recommend the Oreo, for your cookie.

That last panel scares the hell out of me, you can really feel the mans pain.
Agreed, you almost feel slammed back into your chair by the force of the raw anguish coming out of him.
Glad it had the desired effect. It was pretty disturbing to draw, I have to admit. The intent wasn’t so much to be bloody as to make it seem dirty and oppressive for him, with unchanged bandages. Though I fear it may seem a bit gratuitous. Whatever, I’m always such a nitpicker, I forget that’s everyone ELSE’S job! 😀

Once you go nuclear it’ll change you forever. There’s no turning back.
xp
That’s a lot of blood. Great panel.
Also ANZAC day is similar to Armistice day but takes place in April– it celebrates a particularly miserable event in WWI where ANZAC forces were instructed to assault the wrong beachead and, if I recall correctly, were whittled down for weeks before eventually being evacuated.
The Galipoli debacle, which was the brainchild of the then First Lord of the Admiralty Winston Churchill. He lost a great deal of his credibility over that and a LOT of Australian and New Zealand soldiers lost their lives, trapped on a beach for years, totally pinned down by the Turkish defenders
Look up Mustafa Kemal’s speech on the anniversary of the battle. It’s very moving.
My mistake for confusing Armistice Day with ANZAC Day, though.
