Hi, everyone, Mr. Average here. I’ve been traveling for the Easter holiday, and in the rush to get packed I totally neglected to bring any drawing equipment with me. I’ll be back in my studio tomorrow, but I think we’re going to be delayed this week. It galls me something fierce to do that so close to the end of the chapter, but there it is. We’ll be back on target soon, though! Happy Easter, and a belated Chag Pesach Sameach! Back soon – I haven’t failed you yet!
I’ve been trying to get to this scene since 2009. Here’s to it! Here we have the real crux of the story, I guess – at least as far as Colonel Haulley is concerned. He’s given up everything and caused a war, and he can’t handle the possibility that it all was all for nothing.
Anyway, I’ll just leave this here. All the best, folks.
Ever felt like you knew everyone, even you, couldn’t be right, but just couldn’t back down?
I’m suddenly reminded of something I watched once:
“You’re here because you wanted to feel like something you’re not: a hero.”
Or did that come out wrong and judgmental?
You’ve described how most wars start, I’m afraid. In a conflict everyone thinks that God is on their side. One must be wrong, and both may be wrong, but both can’t be right.
This seems to be one of the hardest lessons to learn for humans isn’t it.
As sure, entitled and confident you may be, you can always be wrong.
Good men mean well. We just don’t always end up doing well.
Unfortunately, sincerity is radically overrated. It’s the sincere fanatics who end up doing the most harm.
All of a sudden, the good Colonel Haulley is wearing a wedding ring. Detail.
It has been there in the past.
I must be blind.
But In the memories or mike’s brain or what this realm is, it just showed or is it? I checked and noticed Mr. Average seems to have made sure to conceal quite well Haulley’s left hand most of the scenes where he shows in a close range, since the commies knocking on the door incident, since he “left” the real world.
Ot has been there before. I noticed it in the past, like here:

It does seem to be hidden in some scenes. As much as I’d like to say it was part of a grand scheme (as many rather subtle visuals in the story are) this one is an unintended consequence of my being right handed, and therefore causing most of my characters to lead with their right hand when gesturing. Also, sometimes in my haste to get a page done, that detail has slipped through, like the UNA crest on their shoulder patches does from time to time.
Real EVIL is caused not by vice victorious over virtue, but actions done in on overabundance of any single virtue.
Well, as one of my heroes said, “Sincerity is a much overrated virtue.”
Unfortunately, many wars do indeed turn out to be for nothing.
The vast majority of them, I’m afraid – always it turns out to be for nothing for someone. If you get my meaning.
Wow. Late as I may be, I must log in to comment on this page. I arrived at this webcomic off of the Armor Critique thread on the Spacebattles forum, which included quite a few powersuits from 6 Commando, and I’ve been reading all night. I am thoroughly impressed, gotta say.
Also, I think it is incredibly sad (whether it’s just a dreamworld detail or not) that Haulley’s been wearing his wedding band all this time.
