Hey, guys – I got called out of town this weekend and I didn’t have time to finish the page. So here’s a tank! Yes, the second half of the feature on the most iconic, and most controversial, vehicle in the 6-Commando Universe. Enjoy, and I’ll be back next week!
And breaking news, which I’ll repeat next week as well: The SpiderForest Webcomic Collective now has a podcast – all about comics, and I’m in it! Check it out:
We’ve all been working really hard on this, and it’s a great show, featuring a ton of interviews, discussions and other cool stuff about the art and craft of webcomics. I hope you’ll give it a listen!
So, all the best, folks!
And by the way, here’s what the text says, running clockwise from upper left:
6th Cavalry Division, Republic of China Ground Forces; Battle of Koha Tranh, Third Indochina War, 1976
III. Panzerdivision “Erdeslicht,” Bundeswehr (Loyalists); Battle of the Knüllgebirge, German Civil War, 1979
Carrier Aurora Interface Action Group, Republic of Quebec Maritime Militia; RIMPAC-VI, South China Sea, 1983
Interface Support Wing, 11th Cavalry, U.S. Continental Army; Operation Scimitar, Mosul, 1987
33e Regiment de Chasseurs, Free French Army; Malagasy Emergency, Vondrozo, 1986
2nd Lancers Regiment, Exército Portugués; Lisbon Sealift, Portuguese Coast, 1981.
Looking really sweet there.
I find it funny somehow, that all the various nations here use some sort of camouflage for their vehicle, except for Canada, they are like ‘Let’s paint it all blue in contrast to those commies.’
That’s the Québécois navy (“Maritime Militia”), actually, but yeah, 🙂
I looked to World War 2 Corsair carrier fighters for that scheme.
Looks great, but would it be possible to make the text be bigger next time? As it is, i can´t read parts of it. Same for other encyclopedic entries. Is it only my problem?
Yeah, it’s sized for print – I should make an online version. It’s mostly a visual thing, it didn’t occur to me really.
I’m editing the post above to include the transcript.
Oh Quebec you rascals
I split up Canada and made the US a weak, non-interventionist confederation. We call that a “Great Politics Mess-Up,” I guess.
What’s the controversy?
Whether or not it works, or makes sense, or our best testing would allow it to exist. But in the 6-Commando universe the answers are “Yes,” “It does,” and “They do.” 😉
The debate still rages…
Probably my analysis.
I do love the Howler! While my love for the A10 Thunderbolt makes me go ‘wait, wut!?’ when I think too hard about it, it’s still a great sci-fi design.
I’m also really digging the camo for the US Continental Army. Can I ask what colors you used? I like to try imitate it in MWO. 🙂
Like, you want the three-number chroma values? I’d have to check Photoshop and get back to you. However, the basics are a base of dark tan with an angular pattern-breaker striping of dark red-brown, and those are outlined in very dark blue-grey, followed by a second line of light tan. I like that one too, myself – it has a very nice “military” look for desert milieus, but is still definitely different from anything in the real world.
Out of curiosity, given that WWII never happened, when did the German army become the Bundeswehr in this timeline? Was it after the sort of extended WWI?
Otherwise, they may be controversial, but the Howlers sure are pretty machines! 😀
The German Federal Republic was the successor to the German Empire, and was founded in 1925, after the Great War.
Finally, the portuguese representation I was dying for (a pleasant surprise)
They do their part. And you know, Captain Da Costa is Azorean, so she’s Portuguese.
