The Eye in the Sky sees all. Things are getting complicated. If they weren’t complicated already. There was originally dialogue on this page and I positively AGONIZED about it, but left it out in the end. I’ve rarely been ill-served by telling less and showing more. So I’m taking the risk and going with it. Hopefully I won’t be totally throwing this into disarray by doing so.
So. Anyway. The next page of the Secret Comic is now up for viewing on topwebcomics.com. Spin on over for a look-see!
We also have a couple more Comics of the Week this time! Check them out!
The Sundown Boys: A distraught space heiress seeks out the only people in the galaxy she can trust, and she’s about to ask them for one hell of a favor.
Sunset Grill: Gangsters. Soldiers. Public defenders. Ordinary people struggling to survive in an extraordinary future. They all have one thing in common: they all drink beer.
Hey, it’s Mystic-B!
(aka the Myasischev M-55).
Dat empennage tho…
Possibly its M-17 predecessor.
I considered that, but the M-17 Stratosphera ‘Mystic-A’ had a MUCH blunter, downsloped nose, and a single engine
Clearly this is ‘Mystic-C’ in which the M-55 airframe was repurposed for the M-17’s recon role.
(As opposed to the original role of ‘Subject 34’, the prototype from which the M-17 and M-55 spawned: stratospheric balloon busting. No joke.)
It’s not really anything, but I based it liberally on the U-2 and the Mystic-B. It’s a high, fast-flying recon aircraft operating at about 75,000 feet.
I was thinking it looked like a hybrid of the U-2 and the DeHaveland Vampire, an early British jet fighter from the 1950’s
The resemblance is noticeable in the front end especially.
I could picture it in a Jonny Quest episode from 1964 with minimal but good looking animation with the jet engine sound and maybe Ted Nichols music. Very nice clean lines on that high flier.
I like it without dialogue, very cool.
Thanks. In the end the dialogue was redundant, as it often is.
Next frame – plane getting shot down.
‘Cause other eyes watch the skies from the ground. And command AA bateries 🙂
Also, it’s good without any text, even better, I think 🙂
Well as they say, they know the risks.
Interesting.
The arguably high-visibility paint job suggests to me either a non-military craft or a prototype/test-vehicle suddenly pressed into special service. If it was purely military, I’d expect its color scheme to be a little more … restrained.
Add to that:
No exterior pods, though the design infers that this plane flies in the same realm as the U2 and the SR-71 (ie. EXTREMELY high up).
More streamlined and “swept-back” than a U-2, so probably faster than that. But nowhere near what is seen in a SR-71.
No sign of doors or hatches that might cover interior weapons mounts (or a bomb bay).
From the size/shape of the canopy, looks like a one-man crew. But there could be space in back for one or two passengers and/or specialized equipment.
In short, something meant to fly fairly fast at extremely high altitudes, but avoids fights or absolutely any other kind of unpleasantness. My first guess is a recon plane. Lower on the list – possibly a specialized courier plane, meant to carry people or small packages long distaces in a hurry.

The paint scheme could indicate that the Communists are operating the aircraft under the cover of a “civil” agency, like their real-world intelligence collection ships.
… And then, of course, there’s the title, ‘Eye In The Sky’. Duh. 🙂
I figure this is probably something along the lines of the U-2s operated by NASA…a military-built plane in the hands of a civilian research agency.
Next week Victor shoots it out of the sky.
He’ll need only four more to make ace.
That’s just because you don’t know his kill count from the Sudanese Campaign.
He’ll need only four more to make triple ace.
