Sorry to be a bit late, I struggled with this one. I produced several versions of the page, only to redraw the whole thing to make it graphically clear – the previous versions, though they told the story, were jumbled up to the point of incoherence, and if nothing else, you know that I go for very strict graphical clarity in my style of art (if not always of writing).
Anyhow, we’re here, now: the seminal moment in Sarah’s young life. It took eight years to get here (almost to the day!) but I made it. And now, as it’s Labor Day, I’m taking the afternoon off and doing something else.
Incidentally, for those of you in the Washington, DC area, I will be at the Small Press Expo in Bethesda, MD, on Saturday, September 16, along with other members of the SpiderForest Webcomic Collective, at table A13. I hope to see you there! We can talk shop, and maybe (if we’re lucky) we can have a few advance copies of volume 1 of Threads, the SpiderForest Webcomic Collective’s new anthology, which is in the final stages of production. Check it out!
Until then, all the best, folks!
Powerful and cool, this page has it all. Great work
Thanks, man. Once again, this is one that had dialogue, but it worked way better without. Sarah wouldn’t be listening anyway.
At first I thought they were Deckard’s guns, but then I realized that some elements are substantially different.
It’s a police special version of the Mach Saber pistol, the Mach Saber A.
But yeah, it’s a Blade Runner homage. 😉
Granted this predates(?) the “wonder-nine wars” and general LEO adoption of high-capacity automatic pistols, but it’s always nice to see a peace officer carrying a revolver.
Revolvers are far more common than automatics among UNA nations for all applications, both Law Enforcement, Militia, Military, and private self-defense. They are safer, more accurate, and can handle larger-bore ammunition needed to defeat heavier armor.
And the Mach Saber A is plenty intimidating. It’s got a lot of the Colt Python in it, that way.
On that note: Nice touch giving the communist an automatic
Revolvers are just better.
I hadn’t considered a civilian need to defeat armor, but it certainly makes for a versatile platform without the need to schlepp the weight and length of a rifle. And a soft-target version of that cartridge, down-loaded to 900fps or so with a softnose or proper hollowpoint projectile would be a one-shot stopper on par with a 12ga shotgun slug. If North Hollywood breaks out, chuck the street loads and toss in an elephant-killer; bang, down goes the armored bad guy. I find the logic growing on me.
As for Sarah…yeah. Seminal event indeed.
Evedently the Canadian Police/Militia don’t beleive there is such a thing as overkill, since they are packing handguns designed to kill targets in power armour. Then again, these are Militia rather than the police we know
It’s a heavily militarized society, even in the Free World.
its off the the French Canadian equivalent for prison gang rape for that Commie!
Nice detail all around…the lack of dialogue just makes it more intense.
And nice to see an example of the Mach Sabers being used by LEOs…I assume they are this universe’s version of Surete de Quebec?
They’re the GCRQ, the Gendarmerie Civile, which is the civilian militia of Quebec. Not to be confused with the Milice Nationale, which is the external defense force. I’m not sure there is any equivalent in any country in the real world, actually.
I think they might be closest to the Spainish Guardia Civil
That would fit pretty neatly, and makes sense.
So, he’s on the run from the cops (but still wears the red arm band because !EDGY!), grabs Sarah to use as hostage, shoots the father then meekly submits to the police in an obvious play for mercy-of-the-court (will prob plead self defense from the father!). What am I missing here?? Oh yeah! How’d he ever get out of jail?!?
I hope that self rightous russian soldier is still sharing her mind. Let’s see what he thinks of this. After all it was a supporter of the ”GLORIOUS PEOPLE’S REVOLUTION” who just tried to aduct a little girl then shot her dad. Let’s see you put a spin on this comrade.
That would be an interesting twist indeed!
