Something’s going seriously wrong with poor Sarah. Did anyone predict this scene? I’m sure someone did. But did they predict what it really means? Well, only your cartoonist knows for sure… 😉
This week was really, really rough on me. I didn’t sleep very well, and had way more work to do on way shorter schedules than I usually like. But I persevered, and this weekend was pure wonderfulness – the weather was warm and sunny, I got some time to see some friends on Saturday, and then I drew this page, and it came out just as I’d wanted it to. So we’re all good!
On the advice of a Knowledgeable Friend, I’ve also given up drinking coffee after 12 noon. That’s a big adjustment for me – although I already radically cut back my coffee drinking on the advice of my cardiologist, I’m still accustomed to having a cup at about 1PM. But I’m taking a shot at it, with the intent being to clear the system by the time I go to sleep. I’m already a clinical insomniac, and so anything that promises a better time at night is worth a try.
At any rate, I’m off to bed now. If history is any guide, this week is going to be another doozy. So off I go! All the best, folks.
If there’s a spinning top on one of the tables in there, that won’t fall down, I think I may hurt someone
Hah! Paging Leonardo Di Caprio?
MikexSarah Is cannon!? O_O
I mean… *ahem* I wonder whats the real meaning behind all of this then? >_>
P.S. in my defense you did told me to not trow the hat too far away… :I
P.S.s. Also, good to know you are taking steps to improve your sleep quality and health. GL with the new coffee schedule.
I can neither confirm nor deny that interpretation. As they say, “You might very well think that, but I couldn’t possibly comment.” 😀
I’m lost. I get it’s a parallel to the previous page, but I don’t get what it means.
Did Mike take bits of one and put them in the other?
I don’t deny that I’ve twisted up this plot pretty tightly, but it’s going to keep unravelling. I’m not trying to be deliberately abstract, but I don’t just want to come out with some single big explanation either – I feel like it’d ruin it.
I’m still wondering what kind of traumatic experience Sarah re-lived thanks to MIKE poking in her memory.
We did get some hints. I think she might have lost her father, but one line of her “Next time I fucking kill him” doesn’t make sense (yet).
Rucker’s was getting his tank and crew destroyed because of his recklessness.
The Russian guy whom’s name I don’t recall right now lost of wife, sister or daughter because he arrived to late to evacuate her.
Haulley was critically injured and later alienated and probably lost his wife and family because of his fanatical amry-indoctrination.
MIKE probably tapped into some other people’s minds as well, but we haven’t seen that yet. Or it has not yet happened.
And there is still no explanation how or why he contacted the Soviet Killa-Kans…
## Suffice to say: I really like the story and how it is evolving. Stripping the mystery away slowly, layer by layer. Building a nice arc of suspension with the occasional plot twist, mind-bend or suprise here and there.
Two words: Quality story-writing.
## And thumbs up oin changing your life-style. Having spend almost 10 years in night-shift work I can relate. My coffee intake got cut from one to two entire coffeepot to three cups a day (two for breakfast and one in the early afternoon). I also started to get up early at 5 am (morning sun wakes me up), get about 45 minutes of exercise and go to bed early at about half past 9 pm. Getting plenty of sleep is crucial for your health, so don’t skip on that.
Good luck with that – getting rid of unhealthy habits is a difficult, but worthwhile task.
One of the great advantages of long-form comic’s like this is that I have the freedom to unfold things slowly. It’s like running my own TV series.
Ya know what, Sarah’s most traumatic experience was probably that nuke that hurt her so bad.
Why am I getting visions of a very local Singularity concept. Hmmmm…
Singularity? As in, technological, or astrophysical?
Technological a la Vernor Vinge
“We need to go deeper…”
Also, ironic that cutting back on coffee is a thing, since apparently a recent study from Sweden (IIRC) suggests that men who drink 6 cups or more of coffee a day are 60% less likely to develop certain kinds of cancer…
Well, of course they do. Like that scene from Woody Allen’s movie “Sleeper:”
“It’s tobacco! It’s one of the healthiest things for you, now go on, get the smoke deep down into your lungs!”
Strange as it would seem to us living in the ‘Old World’ countries in parts of the world live in oblivion of the potential health problems from using tobacco, and there are even health clinics (though not officially sanctioned) that actually recommend smoking as a way to *cure* cancer.
Unfortunately smoking is about as common among kids in those countries as playing video games here. Also, seeing parents giving their small children a lit cigarette is nearly as common as giving them a pacifier here.
I find it downright scary, even more so that the smoking percentage actually increases.
A moment of silence for the 1.5 million Armenians lost a full century ago…
That means you too Turkey.
To all the Turks, Ozzies, and Kiwis out there,
Happy 100th ANZAC Day.
“One staff officer jumped right over another staff officer’s back…”
Cut back on coffee after noon, but cut out pop, black tea and chocolate then too. Also unless you are a recovering alcoholic, consider a small glass of sherry or port about 20 minutes before bed. Port is nice because you can drink the bottle over a month.
